DSPS 33: Strategies for Success in Math

In DSPS 33 I teach strategies to assist you in understanding mathematics while you're concurrently enrolled in Math 50 - 130. We will begin by discussing aspects of learning styles or disabilities that may affect success in mathematics and reviewing general assistive classroom and study skill strategies. Then our focus will be on learning and memory techniques specifically for mathematics.  Strategies will usually be presented in lectures 20-30 minutes long, sometimes leading to a group activity.  Then we will focus on problems you have identified in your homework as being difficult to solve.  I will be grouping you by your math level because the topics you find difficult are usually challenging for most of the group members of that math level.  In these groups I will be teaching more topic specific strategies.  This is not tutoring. I will be emphasizing the use of cognitive and/or academic strategies and identifying how they apply in making math concepts easier to understand, reason through, and remember.
