A little about Me:

I have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and a Masters degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Education.  Before entering education, I worked in the accounting field for various companies. The majority of my work experience was in the aerospace industry, including General Dynamics and SCI.  I am a CMA; which is a professional certification in the area of Managerial Accounting. Unlike CPA's who work in the "public" accounting sector, who specialize in tax, audit, and consulting, CMA's work within the internal operations of an organization. They are often considered business advisors to company management in the areas of forecasts, budgets, cost control, profit management, pricing, efficiency, asset management, funding and investment analysis, systems analysis, performance evaluation, and just about anything that affects the company financially in operations planning and daily operating activities.

Accounting is a discipline that is very dynamic and challenging. Definitely not a career choice for everyone, but if you find an interest in the field and are good with numbers, accounting can be a very lucrative and rewarding career choice. Not to mention the endless opportunities available for accountants.  Accounting jobs are on the rise, with predictions at 16% growth over 10 years.  Factors contributing to this growth include, accounting scandals leading to policy changes, international financial standards, internet and security issues creating more complexity in the numbers, Scarce resources and economic downturns, retiring baby-boomers, and the list goes on.

About 20 years ago, I changed my career direction from practicing accounting to teaching accounting. I have been teaching at Mt. SAC since 1990, and I love it! Other colleges I have taught at include Cal Poly University, Fullerton College, Orange Coast College, Riverside College, Moreno Valley College, San Bernardino College, and more.

Having accounting as a background comes with benefits. In addition to financial stability, working with very interesting and intelligent people over the years, and making important business contacts, I have had the opportunity to contribute to my family and community. For example, volunteering accounting services to the church, the school district, and various community sport teams, as well as helping with some family owned businesses when I can. These are just some of the reasons I think accounting is a great profession to work in. When you pursue a career in accounting, you acquire a set of skills that are needed in every organization, including corporations, small privately-owned businesses, charities, government, not-to-mention managing your own personal finances.

In my spare time, I spend as much time as I can with family, and love to get outdoors whenever I can to hike, bike, ski, or any activity that involves the great outdoors!

As you may have gatheredby my last name, I married an Italian! We have a large family surrounded by Italian traditions and great food. There is nothing like a homemade Italian dinner!
