Extra Credit

Students are eligible to earn up to 60 points in Extra Credit via the Quizzes (each quiz is worth 24 points; however, 36 points can be earned for each quiz.  Since there are 5 quizzes, 5 x 12 equals 60 points.

Students can also earn extra credit by completing the following and submitting them on the last day of class.  Students can earn up to 50 points by submitting the following.  Of course, the points awarded will depend on the quality of the submissions:

  • Compose a Constitution
    • Follow Emi's example on pg. 5 of Chapter 1.  Notice how she identifies what she stands for.  Then, in one paragraph she defines it, and in the next paragraph she attempts to identify its derivation.
  • Compose a World View
    • Note the examples in Chapter 1 (pg. 13-14).  They are both examples of how NOT to do it.  Instead of offering assertion after assertion after assertion, make sure to couple each of your assertions with an example, preferably a quotation from a credible source.
  • Complete the T/F Exercise on pg. 166-167
  • Complete the Finding Objective Meaning Exercise on pg. 168-175
  • Complete the Identifying Types of Claims Exercise on pg. 165-166
  • Complete the Making Qualified Assertions Exercise on pg. 162-163
  • Complete the Detecting Bias Exercise on pg. 175-177
  • Complete the Fallacies Exercise on pg. 157-159
  • Complete the Stated vs. Implied Claim Exercise on pg. 163-165.

 

Please note:  Extra Credit points are only applicable to those who have earned a C or better at the end of the course.  In other words, Extra Credit in this class is reserved for those attempting to earn a B or an A.
