Extemp Handout

This speech is designed for you to answer a current event question. You should consider this a persuasive speech. In class you will pick a question from a predetermined list. You will want to decide your answer to the question and use the "three reasons" structure to answer the question.

You will have 5 minutes for your speech. You should include at least three academic sources in your speech. These should be cited according to MLA format on your outline and shared with us orally (source and date) during your presentation. Please use the Mt. SAC Library databases for research as explained in class. Please plan on using 1 source per main point.  No Visual Aid is allowed.

Each student will give their speech on Mon 6/2. Since we have limited time to give speeches if you miss your day on your assigned week there will be no make-ups unless you are granted an exception per Communication Department Policy. If you have any questions about your assigned day please send me an email to dcantrell3@mtsac.edu asap.

This speech will be given a few times on speech day to small groups. You will not be presenting in front of the class.  At least once you will give the speech with your professor listening and grading your speech.

You can use up to 3 3x5 note cards during your presentation – no outlines can be used. A full and complete outline will be due the day of your speech.
