Engineering 24 (ENGR 24)
Welcome to Engineering 24 (ENGR 24)!
Engineering 24 is similar in purpose and structure to ENGIN-26: Engineering Graphics & CAD (3 Credits) at Chaffey College. This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental principles of engineering graphics, technical drafting, computer-aided design, and visual communication used in engineering and design professions.
The course emphasizes the development of practical drafting and design skills through both traditional engineering graphics concepts and modern CAD applications. Students will learn how to read, interpret, and prepare technical drawings with accuracy, clarity, and proper drafting standards. Topics may include orthographic projection, auxiliary views, sectional views, dimensioning, tolerancing, isometric drawings, 2D drafting, basic 3D modeling, and engineering design documentation.
A major focus of the class is helping students understand how engineers, designers, architects, and technicians communicate ideas through drawings. Students will use CAD software to create professional-quality engineering drawings and develop the technical problem-solving skills needed for future coursework, internships, and careers in engineering, manufacturing, construction, architecture, and related technical fields.
Through lectures, demonstrations, hands-on CAD assignments, and project-based work, students will gain experience applying engineering graphics principles to real-world design problems. The course also encourages accuracy, attention to detail, organization, creativity, and professionalism—skills that are essential for success in engineering and design.
Course Emphasis Includes:
- Engineering graphics and technical drawing fundamentals
- Computer-aided design using CAD software
- Orthographic projection and multiview drawings
- Auxiliary views and sectional views
- Dimensioning, annotation, and drafting standards
- Isometric drawings and pictorial representation
- Basic 3D modeling and visualization
- Engineering problem-solving and design communication
- Preparation for advanced engineering, drafting, CAD, and design courses
