Welcome to Surveying 1A!

The objective of this course is to provide students with a strong foundation in basic surveying principles through a significant amount of hands-on training and field practice. Students are introduced to the proper use of total stations, levels, tripods, rods, prisms, and other surveying equipment commonly used in the engineering and land surveying professions.
The class emphasizes practical field procedures, including measuring distances and angles, establishing control points, performing leveling work, collecting field data, and understanding basic traverse and topographic surveying methods. Students also gain experience using surveying software to process field measurements, prepare survey data, and develop a better understanding of how field information is used in engineering design and construction.
Through classroom instruction, field exercises, and software applications, students develop the technical skills, accuracy, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities needed to achieve the course learning outcomes and prepare for future coursework or entry-level work in surveying, civil engineering, and construction-related fields.
